We are offering an antique Saks Fifth Avenue made in France, clutch style purse. This purse is completely adorned with tiny subdued colored beads. The primary color is soft beige while the floral motif is mauve, taupe, & brown.
The decoratively etched copper colored metal frame is topped two matching filigree cones filled with ribbons of ivory beads. The clasp is also a copper filigree cone that has the same beads & matching style as top of purse, just a little smaller.
This clasp & purse style are referenced in Stephanie Pedersen's "Handbags, What Every Woman Should Know". This purse & style does date back to 1910's. Some later styles of beaded purses are known as "wedding purses".
The purse has a silk lining with two pockets and the Saks logo sown into it. Made in France is also sown just below the name. We also have the coin purse and mirror case with additional pocket in it, both items match the lining of the purse.
The beads on the outside of the purse are in excellent shape, no missing or loose beads. The purse also has a thick silk backed loop that is carefully beaded and equally well made. There are a few areas that do require some additional care and I preformed care as far as my abilities without damage to this item without use of a professional.
There is one small rust stain inside the purse lining and the copper needs additional buffing but is not loose or breaking. The mirror due to age will need to be replaced. As far as hinges and clasp they are in great working condition.
We have several pictures and if any additional views are needed please feel free to contact us. The purse is 8"L x 5"H and has a great vintage appeal. This package will ship Free Priority Mail in continental U.S. We now offer fixed rates for our International clients.
The first $50.00 is covered by USPS insurance. Insurance is the responsibility of the Buyer. Due to the age and collectable nature of this item insurance is required.
