Hammerhead Oyster With 2 Spiney Oysters Attached, White 7 Inches Long, 5 Inches Wide, Carrier Type Shell, T Shaped Oyster,

LISTED ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 2019 - VIEWED 22 TIMES
This unusual sea shell is a Hammerhead Oyster with a Spiny Oyster attached. This looks glued together but actually happens naturally. Researchers from Purdue University and the University of South Carolina have shown that oysters produce a unique adhesive material for affixing themselves to each other, a cement that differs from the glues used by other marine organisms. These are quite fragile. I have glued some of these back to the original shape after they came unglued. I love these shells. I find them fascinating. Mother Nature never fails to surprise me with her artwork. This shell is approximately 7 inches by 5 inches. The Spiny Oyster is white. If you have any questions, please contact me. I will be happy to answer them.
