This charming country stoneware pitcher is sturdy and untippable, perfect for milk or juice at the table--it just can't spill! The bulging body makes it very stable and the glazed interior makes it easy to clean. It's hand thrown and you can feel and see the finger ridges inside. The potter used tan clay covered with grey slip and applied two narrow cobalt blue bands around the belly. It was finished with a salt glaze, except for the dry bottom. The blue bands were very neatly applied with no smudges. There are no makers marks, but to the right of the strap handle is the maker's thumbprint. The pouring spout is wide with a curled lip and is also good for pouring batter.
This pitcher weighs over 1.50 pounds and holds 30 ounces comfortably. It stands 4.75 inches tall, is about 7 inches across including the handle and has a 4.25 inch diameter base. It's in great condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or stains. The grey slip was allowed to drip and pool in certain areas. There are small bumps and lumps of clay here and there--it's a rustic piece. When it's not in use, fill it with daisies!
