Part of a series depicting British fox hunting, this beautiful plate was made by the Hanley, England firm of Royal Cauldon (1920-1962). The well of the plate features a black and white underglaze transfer of a woman riding sidesaddle, her horse jumping a stone wall. The title, printed in black below the picture, is "Over the Top." The well is encircled by a raised rope design, while the flat lip has raised beading and a scalloped rim.
The plate measures 9 1/2 inches in diameter, is 3/4 of an inch high and weighs 1 pound 2 ounces. The printed black mark in the center of the raised foot indicates the plate was made during the years 1920 to 1950. The plate is in absolutely pristine condition, with no damage or crazing and no wear we could find. It looks great with a collection of black transferware or displayed by itself. Perfect for the Anglophile or the hunting enthusiast1
