Duke-Elder Text Book of Ophthalmology Vol. III Diseases of the Inner Eye
Hard Cover, 1941, The C. V. Mosby Co., St Louis, MO. Duke-Elder, Sir W. Stewart MD.
Essential for any collection of 20th century ophthalmology texts, Sir W. Stewart Duke-Elder's Text-Book of Ophthalmology was the standard reference series during the mid-20th century. This is the most important volume of the series, containing "Diseases of the Inner Eye", including cataract, retina, glaucoma, uveitis, and optic nerve diseases.
The condition of the pages is very good to excellent, with no markings and excellent color clarity and vibrancy in the many color plates. There is a wealth of illustrations, especially pathology slides, far more than in recent textbooks. The level of knowledge, and the comprehensiveness of this text assembled by a single author, is nothing short of astonishing. The profession owes a great debt to this English ophthalmologist, who spent his evenings and weekends for almost three decades assembling the known facts about the field. He was also a captivating writer!
Condition: VG, Former library book, it has a few stamps and some library filing notes. The outside cover is in good condition, with some light edge wear as shown in the photos, but a good sturdy spine and very little wear.
Great gift for any person in the medical field.
