Spikehorn Meyer was originally an architect and designer who left his old life to live in Michigan's Upper-Middle Peninsula. He lived on 80 acres near Harrison, Michigan and cared for twenty (20) bears at Spikehorn's Bear Den and Wildlife Park, and "for the first time readers have a single comprehensive source clearing up the confusion and myths surrounding Spikehorn's exploits and distinctly different personality." Indexed. Bound in the original publisher's glossy pictorial boards in Unread /Excellent "Like New" Condition (with perhaps microscopic flaws expected for a book of it's age, which I am unable to detect with very good vision. Just being 100% factual, lol.)

FIRST EDITION Hardbound book condition: fine. sewn binding: sound, pages and numerous black & white photographs: fine. 150 pages; Approx size: 11.3" X 8.3" X 0.5".
Copyrighted 1994.

During the course of his life, Spikehorn was a showman, naturalist, politician, coal miner, tile manufacturer, furniture builder, inventor, realtor, hunter, bear trainer, lumberjack, and above all, individualist.

John E. ("Spikehorn") Meyer was born in 1870 in Winesburg, Ohio. As a child, Meyer moved with his family to central Michigan. Meyer became the owner-operator of a deer park and "bear den" in Clare County where he lived the rest of his life. Aside from his wildlife tourist attractions, Meyer also invented a number of machines and gadgets as aids in maintaining himself as a free and unencumbered man in the wilderness. He was a "great friend" of bears and dressed in homemade buckskins 24/7. This book explains why he was Michigan's most Legendary and colorful character!
