English Beehive Brass Candlesticks

English Beehive Brass Candlesticks
LISTED ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2025 - VIEWED 96 TIMES
This handsome pair of brass candlesticks were made in England. Cast in two parts, they are true beehive design sticks, with a central inverted beehive turning and no other decorations (such as a faceted knob above the beehive). Below the beehive a bell shape connects it to the square base with cut corners. The beehive is a decorative detail popular on brass candlesticks in the 1800's.

Both sticks are equal in size and measure 9 1/2 inches high. The base measures 4 inches square, the candle cup is 7/8 inches across and each one weighs an amazing 3 pounds, 6 ounces each. (The game of Clue, originally called Cluedo, was invented in Birmingham, England. These brass sticks were undoubtedly made in Birmingham and could easily be the murder weapon in the game.)

The bottom of each of the candlesticks has an impressed mark consisting of a bell within a crenellated tower. The same mark is printed on the red and gold foil label, along with the words 'Made in England'. The candlesticks are in excellent condition with some discoloration on the wax pan around the opening for the candle...we left them unpolished as they are a nice mellow golden color as found and they display wonderfully.
